I haven’t shared this story with too many people, because after it first occurred some of the people that I explained it to tried to find logical explanation for what occurred. But in reality – there was no logical explanation. Only a force that was greater and more powerful than I ever imagined.
It was a Friday afternoon around 5pm during rush hour traffic and I was driving southbound down I-77 on my way home from college for the weekend. Suddenly I lost control of my car and all I could see in front of me was the concrete divider that separated the north bound from the south bound lanes. At the time I wasn’t sure why my car loss control; I later learned that I had a blown out a tire.
As my car sped towards the concrete wall, I tried with all of my might to change direction with the steering wheel – but it was useless my car was going to slam into the concrete wall at any moment and I had no control of the outcome. So I quickly decided to take my hands off the steering wheel, cover my eyes and pray for whatever was God’s will. During that moment I literally saw my life pass before me in my minds eye. The years passed by so fast but I experienced both the joys and pains of being a young woman who then was in my early twenties.
Without a moment to spare, I felt my car being swept to the opposite side of the expressway to the emergency zone. As it moved from the center of the expressway and away from the concrete wall my car also turned in the opposite direction – now I was facing oncoming rush hour traffic. It felt as though a giant hand swept my car to the other side of the expressway as I landed safely in a strip of grass along the I-77 south stunned and shaken.
When I took my hands away from my face I couldn’t believe where I was and how God managed to keep me in one piece during the busiest time of the day – when everyone was rushing home from work. A nice lady driving northbound on I-77 witnessed the entire event and took the nearest exit to get to me.
I sat in my car until the concerned lady drove up next to me, put on her hazards and asked if I was okay. I could hardly respond when she said she would call for help. (This was before cell phones – believe it or not.) Once she determined that I was okay she left and perhaps 15 minutes later a tow truck came to assist me. Unfortunately I never got her name – I was too shaken up to ask; but I often think about her and how God sent me an angle just when I needed it most.
A few years later when I committed myself to reading the bible in its entirety, I came across this scripture and ever since it has become one of my favorites. In Hebrews 13:2 you will read “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for doing so people have entertained angels without knowing it.” Have you ever been touched by an angle? If so I would love for you to share your story with our readers. In the meantime enjoy another Fun Facts with Dr. Cris video.
